The Great Pyrenees Club of California was organized in August of 1950 and serves the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. For over 50 years the GPCC has been committed to the improvement, advancement and preservation of the Great Pyrenees breed. Our club is actively involved in public education as well as member education. Workshops are held which meet the needs of companion dog owners as well as breeders and show dog owners.
The membership of the GPCC reflects a wide variety of Great Pyrenees owners. Members include show competition and breeding stock owners, Pyrenees pet owners as well as livestock guardian dog owners. The GPCC encourages all of our membership to participate in the GPCC scheduled meetings, which are announced in our bi-monthly newsletter Pyr News and Notes. Members are also invited to join our recreational and social events to exchange ideas regarding care, behavior, training and breeding the Great Pyrenees.
Since 1952 our largest event of the year is our annual Independent Specialty Show, Obedience Trial and Sweepstakes. In 2001 we added the Spay/Neuter Contest for altered animals to our Specialty Show. The members of the GPCC actively and passionately support Great Pyrenees Rescue of Northern California. GPRNC services the rescue and foster care needs and provides safe haven and forever homes for abandon and unwanted Great Pyrenees.
